| Monet’s outline-gesture drawings of landscapes and water, objects in nature, especially water reflections, are studies for his paintings. He sketches anywhere in the book; some appear upside down and overlap onto previous sketches, and are done years apart from each other. He studies composition and perspective, e.g. at train stations, farm fields, churches and the town centres of country towns he visits.
