What has the sketchbook been in the past and what can it be today? Together this website demonstrates how sketchbooks cross disciplines, skills, cultures, gender, and class etc., to gain a better understanding.

The sketchbooks appear here not necessarily for the 'name' of the artist, but for the different thinking and seeing through the sketchbook.

Orlando Ribeiro, changes the way geographers do fieldwork, he includes the human species. Drawings, and short texts, observations about the land, tools, and agricultural workers are just a few of the descriptions which give an immediate source of information, an essential part for the geographer’s published work. It also provides a record of the geographers habits and journeys. 1930s-40s to 1985.
