Early sketchbooks done as an art student in Quebec show another side of the established artist.

Observations by Lemieux on location, composition, and his use of various media; how he simplifies line and shapes, and his color choices for everyday scenes, i.e. at the beach, countryside, city streets, and family gatherings, etc. The sketches could be a history, and record, of a time, place, and family.

Lemieux was best known for large paintings of lone figures in their environment.

Conté crayon, watercolour, graphite, colored pencil, and/or black ink, felt pen on wove paper.
